TIMES OF THE DAY:
Use the following time expressions to express things that happen during the day.
in the morning (a la mañana)
at midday (al mediodia)
in the afternoon (a la tarde)
in the evening (a la tardecita)
at night (a la noche)
at midnight (a la medianoche)
at breakfast (al desayuno)
at lunch (al almuerzo)
at tea (a la merienda)
at dinner (a la cena)
NOTE: Make sure to note that we say 'at night' NOT 'in the night'
Examples:
They go to school in the morning.
He goes to bed late at night.
Time Expressions to Use with the Present Simple
every day, week, month, year, etc.
todos los dias, semanas, meses, años.
adverbs of frequency:always, usually, sometimes, .frequently, often, rarely, hardly ever, never.
siempre, usualmente, a veces, frecuentemente, a menudo, rara vez, casi nunca, nunca.
Time Expressions to Use with the Present Continuous
now :Tom is watching TV now.
today :I'm working at the moment.
Time Expressions Often Used in the Past
last + week, month or year
They went on holiday last month.
yesterday: used when speaking about the previous day
I visited my best friend yesterday.
ago : n° of days, weeks, months, years + ago
We flew to Bariloche three weeks ago.
in + specific years or months
We went to Barilocge in July.
when + a past time clause
I watched TVevery day when I was a teenager.
Time Expressions Used in the Present Perfect
for+ period of time
I have studied English for 10 years.
since+ specific time
I have studied English since 1990.
Time Expressions Used in the Future
next : We are going to visit our friends in Cordoba next week.
tomorrow :He'll be at school tomorrow.
in + n°of weeks, days, years time.
We will be swimming in Mar del Plata in two weeks time.
